Crock Pot Software
If all goes right, these words were sent from an app I’ve wanted for years. The lack of this app at least partially the reason I’ve not been able to keep a blogging habit over the last 5 to 10 years.
This app was made possible only by the silicon gods. I know nothing about building Mac and iO apps, but the fine folks at SpaceXAI, Anthropic, and most of all, Apple, made a dream come true.
After reading Robin Sloan’s recent post, Ask for What You Want in the wee hours of Saturday morning, I wrote myself a simple spec. After dumping 1,128 words into a markdown file, I sent my agents on a mission to first build a Mac app. The returned 12 hours later (with some periodic stand-up meetings) with a native Mac app.
This morning, I told my little digital guys to build an iOS version of that same app, and here I am, another 12 hours later, using the app to write to you.
It is not without quirks. Every time I stop typing, I get prompted to resolve an editor conflict between my client and a server. In fact, I may need to perform some copypasta voodoo to get this thing out the door.
But those bugs will get squashed. I’ll sic Cursor on ‘em. That’s the beauty of home cooking your own software. My tools can be made to my taste. And nobody can do a damn thing about it.
